The latest release from Gateshead trio Elephant Memoirs, Mug is a typically intense few minutes of driving, distorted sound from a band who pride themselves on that kind of sound (and do it very well).
With a very Muse-sounding intro, thumping drums and breathy vocals, Mug has a powerful, driving sense of urgency. Lyrically strong once again, with lines such as 'when Fate calls for me with a parting word not a kickstart, then I'll sink my teeth into it's heart', there's a brooding darkness here that builds with the melody - and some damn mifty guitar work.
Now firmly established in the North East live music scene, Elephant Memoirs are starting to create a buzz around the area. I'm yet to see them live - but I doubt it'll be long till i do.
